I think it would only make sense for me to start by telling you where I work and what I do before telling you this ‘nice’ thing that happened to me today.
I work for ICT Authority under the Ajira Project. ICT Authority is a government state corporation under the Ministry of ICT. The corporation is responsible for all ICT functions both at national and county level in the country.
Ajira – the project I am currently working on – is a government initiative through the Ministry of ICT whose objective is to introduce the youth and Kenyans in general to online work so they are able to earn part-time or full-time income, by providing FREE Awareness, Training, and Mentorship. The government is doing this cause of the high level of unemployment in Kenya today (40% among the youth).
One of my job descriptions for the Ajira project is training. This whole week my team and I have been training a number of youths at our offices in Teleposta Towers 23rd floor, on the various online opportunities like Article writing, Transcription,Web Research and Virtual Assistant.
Personally, I was tasked to handle transcription, which I delivered yesterday.
Today the trainees were taught Web Research and Virtual Assistant which was handled by two of my able team members. I later showed the trainees how to configure their laptops for least data bundles consumption, and emphasized a few things here and there on transcription.
So, What nice Thing Happened to me Today?
One of the trainees walked up to me during a break and said, ‘Carol, you the most kind-hearted person I have ever met, thanks a lot’. That made me feel really good, fulfilled and helpful to my country. As emotional as I am, I almost shed a tear.
Now guys, don’t get me wrong; it’s not like no one has told me am kind before, hehe. This one felt different, sincere and pure. One thing I know about me is that I am a lot of things, but the one thing I know am not is mean with knowledge. I don’t feel threatened with passing my knowledge to others; I actually like it – it makes me better.
Anyway, that’s what made me happy today. Sorry to disappoint if you were expecting something big. Sometimes it’s the simple things that move the heart.
I wish the trainees all the best as they pursue online money. I am confident that my team and I gave them the best guidance to make it online.
